Synopsis
‘F20’ is a psychological suspense thriller that takes place when Ae-ran (Jang Young-nam), a mother who wants to hide her son’s schizophrenia, and Kyung-hwa (Kim Jung-young), a mother of a son suffering from the same disease, live in the same apartment. Directed by Hong Eun-mi and starring Jang Young-nam, Jeong Seo-ho, Kim Jung-young, and Kim Kang-min.
The work was first released in theaters on the 6th, the first movie project attempted by KBS, and was scheduled to be aired on OTT Wave and TV afterwards.
However, after ‘F20’ was released, 16 organizations, including the Korea Center for Independent Living for Mentally Disabled People, criticized ‘F20’ as promoting hatred of schizophrenia and urged the screening to be stopped. They pointed out, “We cannot help but be astonished at the content that promotes prejudice against people with schizophrenia.”
When the controversy broke out, a KBS official said, “We will meet with the production manager and take a serious and in-depth look at the issues raised by the related organizations.” He added, “As it is a public broadcaster, we will do our best to overcome discrimination against the socially disadvantaged.”
