In Front of Your Face depicts the daily life of Sang-ok (Lee Hye-young), who was active as an actress in the 1990s for 85 minutes, and then left for the United States, returning to Korea and living in the house of her younger sister Jeong-ok (Jo Yun-hee), whom she had lost contact with for a while.
Sang-ok, who is trying to live today, not yesterday or tomorrow, meets film director Jae-won (Kwon Hae-hyo) and receives a proposal to work together.
In the morning, she and her sister visit a park where she meets a person who recognizes her and hears that she is ‘still pretty’.
When the appointment is delayed and the time is up, she goes to the old house in Itaewon where she lived when she was young, meets the owner who is quite young, and in the late afternoon, she meets Jae-won at a small bar in the back alley of Insa-dong to have a drink.
Sang-ok, who vows to be faithful on a given day as if memorizing a prayer, wanders around Seoul and encounters a complex human relationship that is difficult to explain in her daily life.
The movie starts with a scene where Sang-ok watches her younger sister asleep, and ends with the same scene. It’s like having a ‘dream’ that appears repeatedly in the dialogue.
The official website of the film festival introduced ‘In Front of Your Face’, saying, “Wandering through the rainy alleys and cramped bars full of loneliness in a glass of wine, director Hong Sang-soo endlessly explores the complexity of human relationships.”
