‘Kim Ji-young, Born 1982’ is a movie that depicts the story of Kim Ji-young (Jung Yu-mi), who was born in 1982 and lives today in 2019. The bestseller of the same name by writer Cho Nam-joo was made into a movie.
Director Kim Do-young said, “The original story became a topic of discussion, interest, and controversy, so I thought about how to meet the audience with a good narrative. “I thought I should put more of what I wanted to say.” He said, “This work is about a woman who has lost her words to find herself. I thought it was a story that grew up as she told her own story,” he said.
Jung Yu-mi said that it was a courageous choice to choose this work while the original was a hot topic, “I think there are other things that require real courage.
Gong Yoo said, “When I first heard the script, my first thought was family. As I was preparing to shoot the movie and show it to the audience, I thought about it again. I thought about why I made this movie. , so I did it.”
For ‘Kim Ji-young, Born 1982’, a petition from the Blue House to block the production of the film was filed even before the film was made because the original was a feminist novel, and the lead actress Jung Yu-mi suffered from malicious comments. Jung Yu-mi said, “I thought that such a story could come out. I was surprised that there were various stories coming and going, but the only thing I want to do with this film is to create a story I want to share, so I just chose it.” Even after watching the movie, I still felt that same feeling. I think a story that many people can relate to and offer comfort has come out.”
When asked how much she sympathized with Kim Ji-young’s character in ‘Kim Ji-young, Born 1982’, Jung Yu-mi said, “I am a woman in my 30s like Kim Ji-young, but I have never lived the same life as Ji-young. There were a lot of people like Kim Ji-young around me, so I asked a lot of people around me, and I read novels and got help about feelings I didn’t understand.”
Director Kim Do-young said, “Gong Yoo had a strong fantasy image in the drama ‘Goblin‘. I thought about how to step into reality and how to play the role of an ordinary husband, but at the first reading, I was surprised. The ordinary figure inside Gong Yoo, this role and what it does I had a good understanding of what I had to do.”
Gong Yoo said, “You may not know it, but I am a small and ordinary actor. It is a difficult movie in a way, but I liked Daehyun as a character whose feet are touching the floor of reality, and I came into this film with a light heart.”
Gong Yoo Jung and director Kim Do-young asked us to sympathize with the sincerity conveyed by the film.
Gong Yoo said, “I look forward to the audience’s reaction and I’m excited. My hope is that people who watch the movie can share what I felt, but the audience decides. I am humbly waiting for you to watch the movie and talk.
