So-jeong (Son Young-joo), who dreams of independence, is a nineteen-year-old girl who wants to live freely while making her favorite music. However, there is no way out of the reality of living alone with a sick mother in a rented apartment where her violent father left.
So jeong always imagines. When I turn 20, I want to get away from my mother’s house and have my own house where I can live in music or anything else. But my mother passed away suddenly. So-jeong, who is left alone with her mother’s death, hides her mother’s body in a bathtub for fear of living with her father again. Unable to get help from anyone, she keeps a terrible secret and starts living with her mother’s body.
The movie ‘Nineteen’ shows a certain precarious standing alone, with no stability at home, school, or life. For a 19-year-old girl who is placed between a child and an adult, the sudden death of her mother is bitter as if the wind in the middle of winter bites her skin.
I’ve always wanted to get away from my mother and home, but it’s not easy to prepare to stand alone or to give a helping hand. It is a great ordeal to promote such a predetermined growth. Through the process of abandonment, resignation, and adaptation, the girl becomes an adult.
Seong-hyeon (Jung Tae-seong), a classmate from school who wants to become independent as soon as possible in a house like a thin ice sheet, is in a similar situation. Like So jeong, for Seong hyeon, home is a space that she wants to escape from someday. At the same time, it is an important device to remind them of their realistic concerns. Such two people meet by chance at a factory practice and become close through music. Just as music is Sojung’s only dream and refuge, Seonghyeon dreams of music and tries to get closer to that dream.
