After 11 years of leaving his hometown and heading to Seoul, he finally entered ‘Seoul’. Dong-won (Kim Seong-gyun), who has become a ‘resident in Seoul’ after breaking out of the situation of a tenant in the metropolitan area, is happy as if his heart would burst. However, within two weeks of moving, the entire ‘My House’, prepared together, fell down a 500m sinkhole. Dong-won is trapped in the dark ground with no cell phone signal. The distant sky above your head looks like a small, faint dot. Now, the biggest goal for Dong-won is not the house but ‘survival’.
Sinkhole is a work that combines the housing anxiety that every commoner in Korea today has to experience and the fear of a massive disaster that suddenly strikes. Knowing how difficult it is to build a house with bare hands without inherited property, the joy of Dong-won, his wife, and son, who loves sitting in the living room of his new house, is transmitted off the screen. However, ‘My House’, which was like a dream that made me want to kiss the living room floor a hundred times a thousand times, suddenly becomes a mess and disappears into the ground.
Ordinary villa neighbors are also sucked into the ground along with Dong-won. Man-su (Cha Seung-won) is harsh with Dong-won, but he is infinitely warm to the son of a job-hunting student, and he works so hard that he even runs ‘two jobs’ and ‘three jobs’ to earn rent and living expenses. There is a child waiting for his mother to go to work, and there is a man whose youth is mortgaged by an elderly mother.
The juniors at work who came to Dong-won’s housewarming and fell into a sinkhole together are also realistic characters. Deputy Kim (Lee Kwang-soo), who can’t confess his love because he doesn’t have a home, and Eun-ju (Kim Hye-joon), an intern who is envious of holiday gifts that only regular employees receive, are ‘tough young people’ you can see often today.
They live with different pains and stories, but in a desperate situation, they end up having the same dream. It is simply ‘living and going out to earth’. I don’t have time to blame myself. Everyone has to put their heads together and help each other. Maybe there will come a time when you have to decide to make a sacrifice for someone else.
