In the drama, Lee Jung-jae takes on the role of ‘Ki-hoon’, an always optimistic person. He explained his role, “(Ki-hoon) is optimistic but has a lot of troubles. I live with my sick mother and participate in a game with a prize money. I get to know the people I met at the game room and play games together,” he explained.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said, “(Lee Jung-jae) always comes out so cool. I had a bad feeling that I wanted to ruin it. Even when he’s doing great acting, he has a humanity, so I wanted to show it a little bit, so I did it with Lee Jung-jae.”
Park Hae-soo played the role of ‘Sang-woo’, who fell into the abyss in an instant while running on the road to success.
He introduced ‘Sangwoo’, saying, “Cho Sang-woo graduated from a prestigious university and ran a successful path as a team leader in a securities company. But he fell into hell through the wrong choice. He participated in the ‘squid game’, the last resort for him.”
In ‘Squid Game’, the performers in the same costume appear. It also symbolizes those who shared memories of their childhood.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said, “Sang-woo and Ki-hoon share memories while they were young together, but as they grow up, they share different memories. Eventually, they meet in a sweatshirt in the game room. Humans can go in different directions in life, but in a competitive society, they all end up all the same, that is bound to be weak,” he explained.
